On view from June 10 – July 17, 2016, Transcendence presents a series of sculptures and paintings by Canadian artist Floyd Sinclair. In a world bound by limitations, imposed by race, skin colour, gender, social status and conventional notions of beauty, Sinclair’s works shed light on the shared aspects of our humanity. From contemplative and pensive figures to faces ranging in skin tones, Sinclair views the human form as a perfect vehicle to represent human complexities and the spaces that lie beyond and in between. The result is a tranquil but powerful quality that captures the human spirit through the lens of the Black Canadian experience. Floyd Sinclair grew up in Montreal's west island, in the suburb of Pierrefonds and is currently living in New Westminster, BC. He has had numerous solo and group exhibits in Montreal, QC, Toronto, Peterborough, ON and New Westminster, BC.
